Slow Lifestyle Manifesto

Multitasking is a moral weakness

If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing slowly or not at all. We value focus and relaxed concentration. We value being here and now.

This is not to say we don’t believe in hard work. We do. It exists. Many of us have no choice but to work hard sometimes. But let's not overdo it. There is no point in needlessly indulging ourselves in hurry or rush.*

Slowing down is a skill that must be learned. It's not for everyone. The Ancient Greeks understood that we work in order to have leisure. If it was good enough for them, it’s good enough for us.

If you are one of us then read on.

Do less, slowly

*We apologize for using the words “hurry” and “rush. ” We do not mean to offend the sensibilities of our readers.

 Forty hours

Forty hours is long enough

for toil and strain and strife.

It's really all too rough,

this so-called working life.

All work can make you such a bore,

so put your feet up and relax.

But don't feel guilty if you ignore

email, phone, and fax.
