Amanda learns about the Slow Lifestyle

Let me tell you darlings, I am indebted to you for telling me about Slow Down Week. This week has been a trial. Commercials are so crass. I auditioned for a part as an egg. I didn’t get it.

One has to make a living, so I am still looking after old Doctor Bilious. He is a sweetie, but he has me running after him. I am reading Rob Roy to him yet again—yet again!

When I take him to the supermarket he has to make a scene. It’s not my fault that prices have gone up since 1960. He already has high blood pressure and when he rails so at the cost of everything, well it makes me so anxious.

He will insist on driving. Of course driving slowly makes sense. You know that. But he will stop at all the road signs and ask me to read them out to him: just to be sure, as he puts it.  He doesn’t hear all the other drivers honking at us, but I do.

The Drabley players are together again. I’m reading for the part of “Woman” in Brandon Manly’s new play, “Fed Up.” He is delicious. No money of course.

Another rude letter from the bank: I may take overdraft elsewhere. It’s all so exhausting. Or at least it was until I typed in Slow Lifestyle into Google and came across your sage advice to Slow Down Now.  You are heavenly. I read the manifesto and thought Yes! Yes! Yes!

I got up late on Thursday and ran my bath. I luxuriated. At the risk of committing multitasking, what an odious word, I drank a cup of pure Assam CTC leaf tea. I was transformed! I could feel the relaxons pulsating through me. I am a new woman!
